NISREEN has been studying the art of belly dance since 2003, when she began taking classes at a local dance studio in El Paso, Texas. Her foundation includes strong hip work, zills (finger cymbals) and familiarity with various rhythms. During her training in Turkey (2007 & 2008), NISREEN participated in workshops and private lessons, expanding her knowledge of the modern Turkish cabaret style, Romany dance and also learning some Turkish folk dancing. In the U.S., NISREEN has taken workshops with Artemis, Eva Cernik and Hadia in the Turkish style.
In the Egyptian style, NISREEN has studied with Sahra Saeeda in both Turkey and California. NISREEN is certified at Sahra’s Journey-to-Egypt Level 1, and will take the Level 2 course in early January. In addition, NISREEN obtained Level One certification by the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance, and has taken workshops with Tamra-Henna of Los Angeles, Bahaia and Karen Barbee, and other Egyptian style dancers. NISREEN has also received instruction from Lebanese and Greek instructors. She has performed in shows, private events, fundraisers and restaurant/nightclubs Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Turkey.
